Sabrina Lamonica was born in Milano, the second of two daughters, her Hungarian mother, Klara, was a proficient artist and haute-couture designer, her father Gigi from Bari, a marketing director.
Sabrina and her sister Evelina grew up in the cultural and historic melting-pot of Europe, Milano, home of ‘la dolce vita’, where the passage of Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo serve as back-drop to the ongoing quest for aesthetic beauty, in art, architecture, furnishings, clothing and fashion.
Sabrina went on to receive her Doctorate in Art Direction and Scenography from the prestigious Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia, which opened doors to movie studios the world over, eventually she settled in at Shepperton Studios in London, working alongside Ken Adam, the Oscar winning art director for Stanley Kubrick, and all of the early James Bond series art direction.
Their close collaboration landed them an Academy Award for Art Direction for the ‘Madeness of King George’ in 1995, directed by Nicholas Hytner, starring Nigel Hawthorne and Helen Mirren. Sabrina has fond memories of her time at Shepperton, with cast and production crew, and it was a particularly stimulating moment artistically in her career, deeply inspired by the consummate professionals she was surrounded by.
Sabrina also works by commission, both oil and watercolor portraits, landscapes, architectural artist renderings, book illustrations, and movie set designs.
You can order original signed prints from her catalog.
